Ascension of Bahá’u’lláh, 1892

After forty years of imprisonment and exile, Bahá’u’lláh passed away peacefully at the age of 74, at Bahji, where he had been allowed to live outside the prison city of Akka for some years, though still officially being a prisoner of the Ottoman Empire. He is interred there. At Bahji, his shrine, surrounded by a stunning garden designed to symbolise the new world order, is the central point of pilgrimage and prayer for Bahá’ís all over the world.
