Declaration of the Báb, 1844

At the age of 25, Siyyid `Alí Muḥammad claimed to be a messenger of God. He took the title Báb (Gate), and in his book the Bayán (Explanation), he taught that he was the Forer-runner for ‘him whom God shall make manifest’, who would be the Promised One of all ages.
