Martyrdom of the Báb, 1850

9th July 2021

The Báb was executed in Tabriz, in 1850. The execution only took place on a second attempt: the first squad – a full 750 men – failed to hit the target, and refused to continue with the process. A second squad completed the task. The Báb’s remains, thrown outside the city, were recovered and hidden by his followers. Eventually they were interred in his Shrine on Mount Carmel, which today is a place of pilgrimage for Bahá’ís from every country in the world.

On this Holy Day, work should be suspended.
